To update the Guide to Standardized Highway Lighting Pole Hardware. This guide has not been updated since 1980 and is well out of date. The 1980 guide is outdated in several areas including the following: It does not reflect the requirements of the 1994 AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural supports for Highway Signs, Luminaries and Traffic Signals; It does not reflect FHWA mandated crash testing of components; It does not include other materials currently being used such as prestressed concrete, fiber reinforced plastic and wood: Nor does it include a wide array of hardware associated with traffic signal poles. The project deliverables are an updated Guide, in hard copy and electronic formats, and a final report which describes the project, and which recommends a process for future updating.

Study is being initiated and funds are being solicited from potential project partners. TX, CA, and WY are going to take the lead in Feb, 2002 to develop a statement of work (SOW). (2/5/02)
